No. 52 Iowa State won 4-2 over Houston on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Cyclones are now 9-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play. With the win, Iowa State now holds the all-time record 2-1 versus Houston.
Iowa State opened the match with a win on court No. 1. Senior Anna Supapitch Kuearum and freshman Cristina Ramos Sierra beat Houston’s Santa Strombacha and Elizaveta Morozova 6-2.
The Cyclones clinched the doubles point on the second court. The freshmen duo of Julia Camblor and Gabriela Felix dispatched Cougars Gabriela Cortes and Sophie Schouten 6-1.
The Cougars pounced early in singles competition. Schouten beat Iowa State freshman Suzanie Pretorius 6-0, 6-3 on the No. 5 court.
Along with Schouten’s win, Valeriia Krokhotina added another singles win for Houston. Krokhotina took down Ramos Sierra 6-3, 6-3 on the fourth court.
Camblor evened the match for Iowa State 2-2 with her 7-6, 6-2 win over Iva Sepa on the No. 2 court.
Freshman Mari Paz Alberto Vilar gave the Cyclones the lead with her win. At the No. 3 spot, she beat Heta Nuutinen 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Finally, No. 97-ranked Kuearum beat No. 122-ranked Strombacha 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to give Iowa State the win over Houston.
Iowa State returns to Ames to play Baylor at 4 p.m. Friday.
