In one of Iowa State’s tougher meets of the year, the Cyclones were able to take second out of four teams at the Ameritas Master Classic. Iowa State had a total of 196.100 points to place second, while No. 20 Nebraska won the competition with a score of 196.450. Texas Woman’s University finished third at 195.975 and Temple rounded it out with a total of 194.550.
Early podium finishes
On the bars, the Cyclones had a combined total of 48.850, led by freshman Frederique Sgarbossa, who scored a 9.850 and finished third overall. Sophomore Paige Wills received a 9.800 and tied for sixth.
Sgarbossa and freshman Haylee Hardin ended up in a three-way tie for second with Nebraska’s Ayzhia Hall on vault, all three scoring a 9.850. As a team, the Cyclones scored a 49.100.
A strong finish
Iowa State had a lot of success in the next event, the floor, and scored a 49.300 as a team, which was its highest team event score of the four events.
Hardin and sophomore Noelle Adams tied for third, each with a score of 9.900. Seniors Josie Bergstrom-Te Slaa and Rachel Wilke ended up in a five-way tie for fifth, each scoring a 9.850.
On the beam, Adams scored a 9.850 and performed her way to a three-way tie with Nebraska’s Emma Spence and Steelie King of Texas Woman’s. Bergstom-Te Slaa tied for seventh with Temple’s Madison Dorunda and Nebraska’s Whitney Jencks at 9.825. As a team, the Cyclones scored a 48.850 on the beam.
Next up for Iowa State will be the Big 12 Championships from West Valley City, Utah at 1 p.m. Saturday.
