US Glove, a company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is stepping in to provide former Iowa State gymnasts with the necessary training equipment after the suspension and later discontinuation of the gymnastics program by Iowa State athletics.
Vice President of US Glove, Angel Brown, spoke to the Iowa State Daily on the company’s position on the matter after the company stated that it would be providing grips and chalk to allow gymnasts to continue training.
“We follow the sport of Gymnastics very closely,” Brown said. “It has been heartbreaking and very discouraging that programs are being eliminated. We feel that gymnastics is an amazing sport that should continue growing, so college athletics should reflect that.”
Brown also brought up how much their support, while small, can impact the gymnasts.
“Now that these women are not part of the program, they have to worry about obtaining all of their equipment and with everything else they have to worry about, I just wanted to kind of eliminate one little worry,” Brown said. “I’m hoping that we can bring some awareness to the situation so that maybe larger companies, larger supporters or even the school itself can see that this program has supporters.”
