ST. LOUIS — Senior forward Joshua Jefferson suffered a left ankle sprain in Iowa State’s Round of 64 108-74 win over No. 15 seed Tennessee State.
Jefferson drove, scored a layup, before tumbling to the floor, giving Iowa State a 5-3 lead.
After the game, Jefferson confirmed X-rays came back negative. He will undergo rehab and is doubtful for Sunday’s game against Kentucky.
Senior guard Tamin Lipsey called over athletic trainer Vic Miller, who was then able to provide attention.
Members of the training staff and head coach T.J. Otzelberger helped Jefferson hobble off the floor and into the locker room.
In response, senior guard Dominick Nelson received minutes as his replacement.
Jefferson used crutches and wore a boot on his left ankle as he made his way to the bench after halftime to watch the second half with his teammates.
“We’ll continue to reevaluate over the next day or two and just see where things are when we get to Sunday and we figure out what time we play,” Otzelberger said.
