The International Food Fair is one of the most popular multicultural events at Iowa State.

For this year’s event, 12 international student organizations will serve more than 30 local cuisines and traditional beverages for the Ames community, including Iowa State’s students and staff members.

The 2018 International Food Fair is hosted by International Student Council (ISC) and will take place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the South Ballroom of the Memorial Union. The event is open for public.

The entrance tickets for the event cost $2 at the pre-sale booth located in the West Student Office Space in the Memorial Union. The pre-sale ends on April 6. Attendees can still purchase tickets on the day of the event, and it will be $3 at the South Ballroom. Food tickets will be sold separately. They can be purchased at the door for $0.50 each. All transactions are cash only.

Proceeds of the entrance tickets will go fund an international student scholarship program, and the proceed of food tickets will go towards the 12 international student organizations who participated.

Here is the menu for the event:

Chandrachur Sengupta, junior in chemical engineering and the elected president of ISC, said the International Food Fair provides an opportunity for international students to showcase their culture through local food and for Ames residents to see a small part of the world in one stop.

“Last year, 1,200 people came, and I expected at least 1,000 people for this year’s event,” Sengupta said. “You can eat around the world in the comfort of your own town, plus it’s affordable. It’s just a must-go event.”

The 12 student organizations will also put up information board behind the dishes they serve. Attendees can learn about the food and the culture while enjoying their lunch. Throughout the event, there will also be an election for the best food of the day. People can vote for their favorite dish.
