The Iowa State Cyclones were defeated by the UMKC Kangaroos 5-2 this afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri.

During singles action, Margarita Timakova was the only Cyclone to obtain a win when she defeated Thanushree Vale 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 6 position.

The Cyclones could not capture a win during doubles play. At the No. 1 position of Cancini/Espindola, they were defeated by Johnson/Grechkina 6-2. Freeman/Bonadonna were also defeated by Ladutska/Ball 6-2 at the No. 2 position. At the No. 3 position, Regina/Timakova went unfinished facing off against Fries/Lathouri. When it was called, the score was 4-4.

No. 1: Maty Cancini was defeated by Aliona Ladutska (UMKC) 6-7, 3-6.

No. 2: Regina Espindola was defeated by Kate Fries (UMKC) 7-5, 4-6, 4-6.

No. 3: Erin Freeman was defeated by Melinda Johnson (UMKC) 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.

No. 4: Ekaterina Repina was defeated by Yana Grechkina (UMKC) 5-7, 3-6.

No. 5: Margarita Timakova defeated Thanushree Vale (UMKC) 6-3, 7-6.

No. 6: Annabela Bonadonna was defeated by Grace Ball (UMKC) 1-6, 3-6.

Doubles:

No. 1: Cancini/Espindola defeated Johnson/Grechkina (UMKC) 6-2.

No. 2: Freeman/Bonadonna defeated Ladutska/Ball (UMKC) 6-2.

No. 3: Regina/Timakova played against Fries/Lathouri (UMKC) but their match went unfinished. It ended at 4-4.

The Cyclones will start Big 12 play Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m. in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After facing Oklahoma State, the Cyclones will face Oklahoma at noon on Sunday in Norman, Oklahoma.
