Five things to know this week

Here’s a list of five events happening this week in Ames! Varying from a basketball game, an American Cancer Society fundraising event and Motown: the Musical, there are plenty of events to partake in.

  1. The Student Union Board presents ISU AfterDark on Friday with mentalist Brian Imbus and comedian/actor Damon Wayans Jr. The event is from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and will take place in Memorial Union. The best part of this event? It’s free! Be sure to stick around all night for Panda Express, karaoke, a photo booth and more.

  2. This Wednesday at the Maintenance Shop, musician Robert Stevenson of the band A Silent Film will perform with opener I Am Strikes. Stevenson will perform acoustic versions of fan favorite songs and the intimate venue is sure to make this show special. Fans of Coldplay, OneRepublic, and The Killers won’t want to miss this! Get $8 tickets with an ISU ID or pay $12 at the door.

  3. The Iowa State Men’s Basketball team faces off Oklahoma State Tuesday. Get tickets for the game at the Iowa State Athletic Ticket Office. Tuesday’s game will be one of two opportunities for Iowa State to play a Big 12 competitor, with a second game against Oklahoma on Friday. Go State!

  4. Motown: the Musical is coming to Stephens Auditorium this Wednesday. The musical will feature Motown hits, incredible choreography and a heartfelt story line. If you’re looking for a deal (and who isn’t?), students can show their ID and get $20 tickets starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

  5. Finally, this Saturday is the 13th annual Relay For Life, an event dedicated to the fight against cancer. The event is from 2 to 10 p.m. at Lied Recreation Athletic Center and will include activities, games and more to celebrate the lives of those affected by cancer. A $15 registration fee will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Register now and help Relay for Life meet its goal of raising $70,000!
