Cyclones grab a road victory over Illinois-Chicago Flames

Maty Cancini returns a serve while her then-partner Sami Budai stands ready at the net. Budai and Cancini played first doubles against Oklahoma on April 21, 2017, at Forker Tennis Courts. First doubles went on to win 6-2 and was the sole winning doubles team for Iowa State.

The Cyclone tennis team will play two teams this weekend. Today they started off playing the Illinois-Chicago Flames and grabbed a win with a 6-1 victory.

Singles:

No. 1: Maty Cancini defeated Georgie Sanders (UIC) with a 6-3, 7-5 victory.

No. 2: Regina Espindola defeated Lejla Colic (UIC) with a close match of 6-4, 6-4.

No. 3: Ekaterina Repina defeated Amelia Guevremont (UIC) 7-5, 6-0.

No. 4: Erin Freeman was defeated by Melika Leblanc (UIC) 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

No. 5: Annabella Bonadonna defeated Rachel Le Comber (UIC) 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

No. 6: Margarita Timakova defeated Miranda Rodriguez (UIC) 6-3, 7-6 (6-0).

Doubles:

No.1: Cancini/Espindola defeated Leblanc/Le Comber (UIC) 6-3.

No.2: Repina/Timakova were defeated by Sanders/Colic (UIC) losing 6-1.

No.3: Freeman/Bonadonna defeated Vasic/Seifert (UIC) with a dominant performance, winning 6-0.

The Cyclones are currently undefeated (3-0) with the start of the spring season. The Cyclones are hoping to keep this streak going as they visit the Redbirds tomorrow.

Tomorrow will conclude the trip to Illinois-Chicago as the Cyclones face the Illinois State Redbirds in Normal, Illinois, at 1 p.m.
