Iowa State loses heartbreaking game to Vanderbilt

In the second straight game, the Iowa State women’s basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss.

After a crushing 83-80 loss on Thursday to the Drake Bulldogs, the Cyclones traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores. And like the Drake game, Iowa State barely lost as it was defeated 77-74 on Saturday to Vanderbilt.

Unlike the contest against the Bulldogs, the Cyclones were in control for most of the game. Iowa State led at halftime 38-33. However, the second half did the cardinal and gold in.

Bill Fennelly’s squad slipped behind Vanderbilt in the third quarter, 62-57. However, Iowa State battled back toward the end of the game to only lose due to free throws.

Junior Bridget Carleton led the Cyclones with 30 points. Freshman Madison Wise was second with 14.

With this loss, Iowa State is now 3-4 on the year. Its next game is on Dec. 6, at Hilton Coliseum against in-state rival, the Iowa Hawkeyes, at 6:30 p.m.
