For the second game in a row, the Iowa State women’s basketball team claimed a victory.

After getting a much-needed win against North Carolina Central last time around, Iowa State defeated the UC-Riverside Highlanders 89-66 on Sunday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum.

The game was competitive in the first quarter, as the score read 19-15 after the first 10 minutes in the Cyclones’ favor. However, after Iowa State hit its first four shots of the second quarter, it was all cardinal and gold from there. But the Cyclones were led by some unlikely faces.

Typically when Iowa State wins, it’s powered by junior Bridget Carleton. Even though the Chatham, Ontario, Canada native did total 10 points, she was the fourth-leading scorer for the Cyclones on Sunday. Newbies Madison Wise, Bride Kennedy-Hopoate and Rae Johnson led the way with 19, 15 and 14 points, respectively.

On the day, Iowa State out shot UC-Riverside 44 percent to 38 percent and made 12 threes. With the win, the Cyclones are now 5-5 on the season.

Iowa State will return to the court on Thursday to take on Nicholls State at 1 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
