Iowa State men’s basketball edges out Emporia State 77-68

Iowa State men’s basketball had its first and only exhibition game against Emporia State, a Division II school from Emporia, Kansas. The Cyclones topped the Hornets 77-68 at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday night.
Iowa State started off slow, not hitting a 3-point shot until the 2:50 mark in the first half. Freshman guard Lindell Wigginton took charge in the first part of the first half with nine points, four rebounds, two steals and a block.
At the 2:50 mark, it became the Donovan Jackson show. The senior guard scored the last 13 points of the first half, totaling 15 points in the first half and 20 throughout the whole game.
Sophomore guard Jakolby Long had an efficient second half of the game with 11 points and two rebounds, finishing with four rebounds.
Iowa State shot 40 percent from the field in the first half and 46 percent throughout the entire game.
The Cyclones also were physical and it showed with the amount of times they went to the free throw line. The team went to the line 15 times in the first half and 21 times in the second half. Iowa State shot 61 percent from the free throw line.
The Cyclones only played seven players because two (Marial Shayok and Michael Jacobson) are out all season as transfers, two (Cameron Lard and Terrence Lewis) were sat due to coaches reasons and Hans Brase was out because of his ACL injury.
Every player on Iowa State’s team played at least 18 minutes.
Iowa State will start the regular season at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 10, as the Cyclones travel south to play the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, Missouri.
