Alpha Sigma Phi (Alpha Sig) and Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) have been sanctioned by the Office of Student Conduct (OSC), according to their website.

Alpha Sig was sanctioned on Oct. 27 during Homecoming week. ADPi was sanctioned Wednesday.

The violations by Alpha Sig include misuse of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances, public disorder, group violence and mass disturbance, endangerment, theft or damage to property or services and violations of conditions of recognition. The conditions of recognition are the policies that qualify them as a group at Iowa State University.

In return, they have deferred their suspension through May 6, 2018. Conduct probation will begin May 6, 2018 to Oct. 28, 2018. The chapter will be on social host probation through Aug. 20, 2018. The chapter also has “restitution for damages in the amount of $1,444.55.”

By May 6, Alpha Sig must “develop policies that outline expectations for members and guests regarding the use of alcohol on common transportation. Must address use of flasks, bottles and other products designed to conceal alcohol on a person,” according to the OSC website.

They also have to “develop policies that outline expectations for members and guests that specifically address ‘pre-gaming’ by May 6.”

Finally, before the end of the spring 2018 semester, the chapter must host an alcohol awareness workshop “that includes training for all members regarding the revised risk management policies and social events with alcohol.”

Alpha Sig has not commented.

Billy Boulden, director of Greek Affairs, has not commented.

“Because we receive varying levels of information about cases and violations, whenever possible, we try to make our sanctions address identified issues,” said Sara Kellogg, director of Student Conduct. “This might mean the sanctions for individuals or groups – while similar – also vary in some ways. This personalization tends to provide for a more comprehensive reflection and response, which has greater benefit for the individual/organization and often their community.”

ADPi misused alcoholic beverages and controlled substances and violated conditions of recognition. They are currently on disciplinary reprimand. By Feb. 1, they must have a comprehensive review of their risk management policies. The chapter then must “interview security companies to use the future events” by Feb. 1.

ADPi has not commented.

These two chapters total the amount of chapters sanctioned this semester to six and 40 of the 44 Iowa State sanctions in the past four years have been greek chapters.
