Don’t worry Cyclone fans.

Head coach Matt Campbell is here to stay. He proved it by signing a new six-year $22.5 million contract today, according to a press release by the Iowa State Athletics Department.

Campbell’s guaranteed annual salary will increase from $2.1 million to $3.5 million, which is effective immediately. Along with Campbell, he’ll have an additional $1 million for his staff.

Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard said in the press release that he and Campbell agreed to have contract discussions after the final regular season game. He wanted to make sure to get it done sooner than later.

“I want to thank Jamie [Pollard] for respecting my desire to hold off these conversations until our regular season ended,” Campbell said in the press release. “The commitment that he and Iowa State have made to us … has been critical to my vision for our team going forward.”

Campbell came to Iowa State before the 2016 football season. His first year, the team went 3-9 overall, but that record improved to 7-5 overall this season. Along with the season record, those wins came against some big opponents like then-No. 3 Oklahoma at Norman, Oklahoma, and then-No. 4 TCU at Jack Trice Stadium.

With this 7-5 record, Iowa State is bowl eligible for the first time since 2012.

“We are just getting started at Iowa State,” Campbell said in the press release. “Most importantly, I want to continue this journey and take Iowa State and its fan base to levels it has never reached.”
