Christy Johnson-Lynch has accomplished a lot of milestones as the Iowa State volleyball coach.

Tonight as the No. 25 Cyclones (4-0) took on the Dayton Flyers (3-2) to kickoff the Dayton Invitational, she added another honor to her resume: 250 career wins at Iowa State.

The Cyclones claimed their fourth win of the season as they swept the Flyers in three sets (25-18, 25-23, and 25-22).

To begin the first set, the two teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle. The flood gates opened for Iowa State when it 15-12.

The Cyclones largest lead in the first was seven points, when they were up 24-17.

While Iowa State won with ease in the first, it saw a tougher matchup from Dayton in the second set.

The two teams traded points throughout the set. At one point, the set was tied at 23 apiece. But, the Cyclones squeaked out the victory in the second thanks to two straight attack errors by the Flyers.

In the third and final set, Iowa State almost lost it. At one point the Cyclones were up 18-9. After that, the Flyers came alive in the set and made the score 22-21. Dayton scored six straight to cut Iowa State’s lead to one point.

Despite the scare, the Cyclones regained composure and Samara West’s block sealed the victory for the Cardinal and Gold.

Iowa State will return to the court to extend their win streak to five as they take on the Pittsburgh Panthers at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
