The Iowa State (15-24, 0-6 Big 12) softball team dropped their eighth straight game Wednesday in Lincoln, Nebraska, falling in both games of a doubleheader at Nebraska (14-20, 3-3 Big Ten).

Despite not getting the results she wanted, coach Jamie Trachsel was pleased with the team’s improvement.

“It was one of our more complete game days,” Trachsel said.

Savannah Sanders earned the start in game one for the Cyclones. Sanders and the Cyclone defense held Nebraska scoreless in the first inning before allowing two runs in the second.

Nebraska tacked on three more runs in the third inning to extend their lead, 5-0.

The next three innings remained scoreless for both sides before the Cyclones put on their rally caps in the seventh inning.

Cathlin Bingham hit an RBI single to score Kirsten Caudle from third base. Talyn Lewis knocked a 2-RBI double to right center field to pull the Cyclones within two.

Iowa State’s rally ultimately fell short as the Cornhuskers took game one, 5-3.

In game two of the day, Nebraska took the early lead once again with a solo homerun in the third and fourth innings.

The Iowa State offense broke through in the fifth inning when Kelsey McFarland hit an RBI single up the middle to score Megan Schweitzer.

The Cyclones would only be able to pull within one of the Cornhuskers, falling in game two, 2-1.

Up next, the Cyclones travel to Waco, Texas, for a three game series with Baylor beginning Friday, April 7.
