The Iowa State volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the spring season to Wisconsin and Minnesota Friday and Saturday.

Despite dropping both matches, the Cyclones showed promise.

The Badgers took set on from Iowa State Friday in Manchester, Iowa, by a score of 22-25. The Cyclones were resilient, taking set two 27-25. Wisconsin took set three 22-25 to secure the victory over the Cyclones.

Iowa State has been experimenting between the 5-1 and 6-2 systems all season, but played the entire match against the Badgers in the 6-2. Libero Hali Hillegas recorded 11 digs in the back row. Monique Harris registered 21 assists while Piper Mauck had 18.

Both teams agreed to play a three-set match to allow Iowa State to travel to Minneapolis for their game against Minnesota Saturday.

Iowa State jumped out to a strong two-set lead against the Golden Gophers, taking set one 25-22 and set two 25-20.

Minnesota would rally to win the last three sets 20-25, 22-25 and 9-15.

Josie Herbst led the Cyclones with 20 kills while Grace Lazard followed with 16 of her own. Hillegas once again had a strong showing at libero with 28 digs.

These games concluded the spring season for Iowa State and showed that the Cyclones can play with two top-tier teams in the country. Both the Badgers and Golden Gophers made deep NCAA tournament runs last season.
