With Planned Parenthood only a few blocks from campus, students and community members might not know all the services it offers.

Under the umbrellas of service, Planned Parenthood has four basic goals as an organization:

Health care

  • Prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception
  • Decrease STIs through testing and treatment
  • Screen for cervical cancers

Informing and educating

  • Provide sexual education courses
  • Affiliates of Planned Parenthood provide outreach to millions of young adults

Lead reproductive health and rights movement

  • Lobbying on behalf of those they serve
  • 10 million activists, donors and supporters nationwide
  • Independent and nonpartisan

Advance global health

  • Poverty, politics, war, lack of basic resources, etc. are prohibiting individuals in other countries’ reproductive treatments.
  • Works with partners in Africa and Latin America to overcome that challenge
  • Created the International Planned Parenthood Federation in London, UK
  • At 650 locations around the nation, Planned Parenthood is not just a location for abortions but also to answer questions, get tested and get informed. Planned Parenthood locations, or online, can provide support to all ages and groups.

Teens

  • By making an appointment, teens can receive birth control, provided and protected under health care, as well as various screenings for situations such as STI’s. Teens can also seek out counseling for topics such as their body, pregnancy, sex, dating, family, friends and LGBTQ+.

Parents

  • As parents, they are not left in the dark. Resources for dealing with key issues like sex and sexuality, setting healthy boundaries, delaying their teens from having sex, parenting a teen who has become sexually active, puberty 101, etc. are provided. Tips and resources are also available on sensitive subjects such as LGBTQ+ or questioning teens and sexting.

Educators:

Much like parents, the source of a lot of key issues roots at the education level. By visiting the Planned Parenthood website or visiting a Planned Parenthood clinic, educators can seek guidance regarding sex education, locating a health educator, program evaluation and various other resources for the classroom setting.
