Cyclones split doubleheader with UCF

The Iowa State (11-15) softball team split two games against the University of Central Florida (14-10) Tuesday.

Brianna Weilbacher picked up her sixth win of the season with the start in game one.

UCF struck first in the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning.

The Knights added another run in the fifth inning to extend their lead to three.

The Cyclones finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning. Sami Williams was brought home from an RBI triple by Talyn Lewis. Kirsten Caudle hit a 3-RBI triple to give Iowa State the lead. Caudle was hit home by Cathlin Bingham to extend the Cyclone lead to two.

A remarkable double play from Williams in the bottom of the seventh would help the Cyclones close out game one with a 5-3 win.

Emma Hylen would get the start for the Cyclones in game two.

UCF would get another 3-0 lead on the Cyclones before Iowa State would respond with a run of their own in the top of the second.

Iowa State scored two runs in the third inning to tie the game 3-3.

UCF scored eight unanswered runs to close out the game, handing the Cyclones an 11-3 loss.

Next up, the Cyclones travel to Fort Myers, Florida for the Battle at the Beach.
