Top moments from the 59th annual Grammy Awards

The 59th annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Sunday evening.

Here are the a few of the top moments from the evening:

James Corden hosts- James Corden, comedian and host of “The Late Late Show,” hosted the Grammy Awards for the first time tonight. Corden started out the show with a hilarious skit and comedic rap. Corden also tied in his fan favorite skit “Carpool Karaoke” into the show with famous performers such as Neil Diamond, Jennifer Lopez and John Legend.

Adele returns to the Grammy stage– Adele started out the night with the opening act singing her song “Hello” which won “Song of the Year.” She also sang a powerful tribute to George Michael, pop superstar, who died at the end of last year. She sang Michael’s song “Fastlove” and wanted it to be perfect, so she actually restarted the performance after making a mistake. The crowd gave her a standing ovation following the performance.

Chance the Rapper wins “Best New Artist”– Chance the Rapper, best known for his song “No Problem,” won his first Grammy award. He honored his hometown of Chicago and made sure to give all of the glory to God in his acceptance speech. Chance the Rapper was trending with 105,000 tweets not long after accepting his award. He also won the award for “Best Rap Album.”

21 Pilots accepts award in their underwear– 21 Pilots accepted their award for “Best Pop Duo-Group Performance” but not until they had taken their pants off and made it to the stage in their underwear. They did this because of a promise they had made to accept their award exactly like they were in that moment. They went on to make a statement that anyone from anywhere could end up on the Grammy stage.

Beyoncé gives powerful performance– Beyoncé had quite the set as she sang both “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” from her album “Lemonade.” She just recently announced that she is pregnant with twins and based her performance on the empowerment of women and mothers.

Bruno Mars gives energetic, jivey performance– Bruno Mars had the Twitter world going crazy with almost 100,000 tweets right after he gave his performance of his song “That’s What I Like.” Wearing a 90’s-like jumpsuit, Bruno Mars sang directly to all of the ladies in the crowd with his effortless voice.

Katy Perry gives politically-charged performance– Katy Perry debuted her new song “Chained to the Rhythm” with Skip Marley while fitting in some political messages and displaying the US Constitution in the background.

Artists come together to pay tribute to the Bee Gees– Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly, Little Big Town and Andra Day sang multiple songs from the Bee Gees, a pop group from the late 1900’s, including one of their most popular songs “Stayin’ Alive.”

Artists pay tribute to Prince– The Time and Bruno Mars payed tribute to Prince, singer and songwriter, who died last year. They sang Prince’s song “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Adele wins “Record of the Year” for her song “Hello” and wins “Album of the Year” for her album “25”
