The ISU softball team’s struggles continued on Wednesday after another short road trip.

Iowa State suffered a disappointing loss in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in its game against Northern Iowa (25-11, 4-4 MVC) Wednesday afternoon, losing 3-2. This marks ISU’s fifth loss in a row since the weekend.

The Panthers struck early in the game when they had loaded the bases up against the Cyclones in the second inning. A walk from pitcher Emma Hylen gave UNI its first run followed by a fielding error by senior shortstop Brittany Gomez.

A single up the middle by second baseman Nychole Antillon would bring in a runner in the fourth inning for Iowa State, but Northern Iowa would answer back in the bottom of the inning to maintain their two run lead.

Iowa State only scored one more run for the rest of the game, a single to center field from pinch hitter Niki Turner, to bat in first baseman Kaylee Bosworth.

From the fifth inning, Northern Iowa held tightly to its one run lead allowing only one more hit from the Cyclones in the last two innings of the game.
