ISU wraps up Jim Duncan Invite

ISU sophomore Chris Celona competes in the men’s weight throw during the Big 12 Indoor Championships at the Lied Rec Center on Feb. 26. Celona would go on to place eighth with a best throw of 17.37 meters.

The ISU track and field team finished up its weekend at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The Cyclones saw four second place finishes and multiple personal bests.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Derek Jones earned a personal best with a time of 52.85, taking second place.   

In the discus throw, Nace Plesko took second place with a throw of 161-1. Following Plesko was Jan Jeuschede who scored a 1434-0 finishing in fourth place.

Alexandru Mitirca finished in fifth place in the men’s long jump at 22-10 1/2. Following Mitirca was Tyler Hunke at 21-10 1/4.

Chris Celona, who made his outdoor debut this weekend, finished at second place in the hammer with a throw of 179-7. His final throw was a record from last season by almost 14 feet.

In the 400-meter dash, Deon Sanders earned a second place finish crossing the line at 47.98. Behind Sanders was Jones who finished at third with a time of 48.44.

The Cyclones will be back in action with a busy upcoming weekend. ISU will compete at the Virginia Challenge, the Stanford Twilight, Musco Twilight and LSU Alumni Gold.
