ISU with another day of strong competition during five-meet weekend

The ISU track and field team saw yet another successful day during its five-meet weekend. The Cyclones competed in the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, LA., the Musco Twilight in Iowa City and the John McDonnell Invitational in Arkansas. 

At the LSU Twilight, Jan Jeuschede earned a first place finish in the shot put. His finish was at 59-7 ½. Following Jeuschede in fourth place was Nace Plesko with a finishing at 55-11 ¾.

Transfer Chris Celona took 10th place in the hammer throw with a personal best of 183-10. Alexandru Mitirica came through for the Cyclones with a second place finish in the LeJuan Simon Invitational Triple Jump at 50-8.

In Iowa City, Derek Jones had a season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles at 51.42 and earned a first place finish. In the 4×400-meter relay, Iowa State took second place behind Iowa with the anchor crossing the finish line at 3:11.30.

Jalen Ford took second place in the high jump with his all-time best jump of 6-11. Nolan McKenna finished at first place in his section of the 1,500-meter run at 4:01.84. Following McKenna in second place was Josh Evans at 4:03.48.

Deon Sanders had a personal record in the 400-meter dash. The transfer from Iowa Central finished in second place at 47.19. 

The Cyclones will compete in the highly anticipated Drake Relays next weekend in Des Moines. The competition will begin on Wednesday through the weekend. Along with the Drake Relays, the Cyclones will also compete at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford on Sunday.
