Wyatt Rhoads finishes day one with personal bests

Wyatt Rhoads began his competition at the Drake Relays in Des Moines on Wednesday, finishing in ninth place with 3,130 points. 

Rhoads began the competition with a time of 11.68 in the 100-meter dash, earning 715 points. Following the 100-meter dash, Rhoads had a jump of 19-9 ½, a personal best for the freshman, gaining 593 more points.

Rhoads had a personal best throw by over 18 inches in the shot put with a final distance of 33-6 1/2. Another personal best by Rhoads in the high jump followed the shot put with a jump of 5-7 ¾.  Rhoads finished day one of the decathlon with a 51.13 in the 400-meter dash. 

Rhoads will begin competing in day two of the decathlon tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.
