Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made an appearance in Des Moines during her River to River Campaign event on Monday, wrapping up a two-day trip to the state.

The Des Moines Historical Society building was the final destination for Clinton’s event in Iowa. The event took place at 5:45 in the evening with nearly 500 people in attendance.

A musician kicked off the event followed by several campaign speakers, including KC Clemons. Clemons is the Ankeny and NE Polk organizer and has been part of the campaign since July.

“moved out here in July from Chicago because I wanted to work for a progressive can that gets things done”, said Jachum.

Jachum explained that because there are only 4 weeks until the caucus, they need supporters to knock on doors and spread awareness of the caucus and Clinton’s plans.

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton joined the stage, about an hour after the event had commenced and discussed her republican opponents.

“now I have been listening to our republican friends. They don’t like it when our economy does better when we have a democrat in the white house”, said Clinton.

Clinton fired commentary about the republicans lack of ability to run the country.

“You know the old saying fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”, joked Clinton over the republicans.

Clinton commented on the success Obama has had in the white house, explained the American job increase and the income rising as well.

“I don’t think president Obama gets the credit he deserves”, said Clinton.

Clinton went on to explain how the republicans cannot win the election.

“The first thing we have to do is not let the rep rip it away by winning the election in November. We have to be prepared to take them on”, said Clinton.

In response to Clinton’s explaining the need to keep republicans out of office, the audience roared in applause.

In a shift in direction, Clinton explained the need to focus on investing in infrastructure and building America greater.

“lets put more people to work building our country”, said Clinton.

Clinton continued on to talking about clean energy claiming that her goals include having America be entirely run on clean energy by her second term.

Other things Clinton hit on were her plans in helping planned parenthood and the need to pay more attention to mental illness and substance abuse.

“we have to enforce the laws that basically say we’ve got to take care of mental health the way you take care of any other medical issue”, remarked Clinton.

She further explained her goals in alzheimer’s research and her promise to lessen student debt.

Clinton even touched on gun control, claiming that people who are not allowed to fly in the US, should also not be allowed to own guns.

“I am for comprehensive background checks”, said Clinton.

Clinton ended her speech exclaiming that she wanted to make America great again.

In attendance, were Jack Jochum, student at Iowa State University, and Laurel Bruntz. Both are democrats.

“I have been a big fan of Hillary my whole life”, said Bruntz.

Jochum, iowa state student, explained that his grandma was the reason he is a democrat.

“I don’t know if I’ll necessarily caucus for Clinton, but I am a democrat”, said Jochum.

Both explained that they will be caucusing.
