Cyclones potent offense lifts them to victory

Cyclone Hockey came out strong Friday evening, winning its season-opening exhibition game against the Huntsville Havoc at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena. 

Forward Preston Blanek began his impressive evening scoring two goals in the first period as the Cyclones jumped out to an early 5-1 lead against the Havoc.

Senior captain Alex Stephens also notched a goal in the first period.

Freshmen took over the rest of the game beginning with defensemen Jake Arroyo scoring a goal at the 1:56 mark of the second period. Forward Tony Uglem scored a Cyclone goal at 9:14 to make the lead 8-1.

The Cyclones changed goalies to Matt Goedeke to begin the third period and the Havoc took advantage. It started the period strong scoring two goals in the first seven minutes.

The Cyclones bounced back with Blanek, a junior, completing his hat trick at the 7:37 mark of the third period. Freshman Aaron Acevedo notched his second goal of the evening at the 10:01 mark.

Blanek completed his performance scoring his fourth goal late in the game.

The Cyclones and the Havoc will meet tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena to complete the double-header.
