The fast facts on the DOT digital license pilot

Iowa’s the first state in the nation to begin testing an app puts its citizens driver’s licenses in a new digital format. Currently being tested by 75 to 100 members of the Iowa Department of Transportation, the new app is hoped to be in the hands of citizens within a year to a year and a half according to Andrea Henry, director of the Office of Strategic Communications for the Iowa DOT.

Here’s the fast facts about the DOT’s pilot program:

  • 75 to 100 people are involved in the pilot.
  • The app is currently only being used on state-issued iPhones.
  • The DOT is looking mostly at usability and security issues.
  • The program is slated to last 90 days.
