All it takes is a 15-minute meeting with a faculty adviser.

And the next thing you know, the vehicle you parked in the staff parking lot has a $15 ticket waiting for you on the windshield.

All vehicles on campus need to have a parking permit, including students, faculty, commuters, visitors and retirees.

A parking ticket can range from $5 to $200, depending on the severity.

How to pay a fine, according to the ISU Parking Division

How to appeal a fine, according to the ISU Parking Division

Students can appeal a citation by filling out the Citation Appeal Form, which is available at the DPS Parking Division office. Students can also fill out the Online Appeal Form, which is available on the ISU Parking Division’s website.

Students can then request an administrative hearing, in writing or in person, within 15 days after a final decision of the Traffic Appeals Board.

Towing

According to the ISU Parking Division, “Vehicles that are in violation of any parking and/or traffic regulations may be towed to maintain order on the University lots and streets. Any vehicle violating Iowa State University rules may be towed without prior notice.”

If a student’s vehicle impounded, he or she can retrieve it by going to Central Iowa Custom Hauling and Auto Transport, which is located in Ames at 310 Sondrol Ave.
