The Good Company
April 16, 2015
The Good Company is an all women’s group directed by Steven Hoifeldt of Ames.
He is not only the director of The Good Company. He works with Ames Choral Society, the Vocal Arts Ensemble in Des Moines, St. Andrews and Betheseda Lutheran Church choirs in Ames, Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and Amestones Barbershop Chorus.
The Good Company has been performing together since 1993.
When he is not busy as either director or singer for any of the groups he is involved in, he teaches World Music, Music Appreciation and leads the Concert Choir at the Des Moines Area Community College location in Boone.
For The Good Company’s performance on April 19, he has brought in a string quartet to play with the singers
“One of the things about [The Good Company] is we really strive to do challenging music. Steve is a great director and he picks really interesting and diverse programs,” said Ellen Rasmussen, member of The Good Company.
Along with The Good Company, a group of AMP — Achieving Maximum Potential — girls from the Youth and Shelter Services will sing two songs chosen by Steve on April 19.
The AMP girls chose to make a commitment to The Good Company because they love to sing.
The women and girls learn not only about singing on pitch but about each other.
The performance is at 7 p.m. on April 19 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Ames. Tickets are $10 in advance at Gallery 319 in Ames or from a Good Company member. Otherwise, tickets are $12 at the door.
