Top 5 jackets needed in every college woman’s wardrobe

Iowa weather can be very unpredictable this time of year. With the constantly changing temperatures, jackets have seemingly become our only way to show off our style.

The first jacket in your wardrobe should be a long black parka. These heavy-duty coats are essential for the bone-chilling temperatures we have been experiencing. The jacket covers your legs to protect them from the wind. Pair the coat with a chunky red infinity scarf to add a pop of color to your look.

The second jacket in your wardrobe should be a classic peacoat. These classic jackets allow you to keep the warmth in, while adding a classic touch to your look. Peacoats will always be in style, so you will be able to keep it in your wardrobe for many years. Black or navy is always a good choice when it comes to peacoats, but don’t be afraid to try gray. It is still a neutral but expands your wardrobe, creating more styling options.

When the temperatures start to warm up a bit, it is important to have a rain jacket or windbreaker as your go-to. Rain can be very unpredictable and many lighter jackets might not be as weatherproof as a rain jacket. These jackets usually come in a variety of colors, styles and patterns, so pick one that would work the best with your wardrobe. A hot pink or robin’s egg blue will help brighten up those dreary days. Pair it with a polka dot umbrella for a stand out look.

Moto jackets have made quite a comeback in the past few years. They have become more of a layering piece than a source of warmth, but are being made in many different styles and colors, so they appeal to everyone. Paired with a flirty dress and booties, they mix girly and edgy styles for a night out in the spring. Combined with dark denim and a black top, an all-black ensemble can be quite chic as well.

Rounding out the list is the trench coat. Trench coats have been experimented with for many years. Designers have been known to put their own twists on the jacket, making this classic new and relevant again for all ages. They are mostly worn in the fall and spring months since they offer just enough warmth for when the warmer temperatures start to dip. With their cinched waist and A-line shape, trench coats have a way of flattering every body type. Usually sold in colors such a khaki or black, don’t be afraid to try a blush or red to stand out from the crowd while still staying chic and classic.

There are many different types of coats to choose from, but many college students are on a budget. When choosing a coat, remember that quality is most important and don’t settle until you find one that best represents your personal style.
