Dinkey Day
September 25, 2014
Dinkey Day is set to kick off today at 5 p.m. on Welch Avenue.
Dinkey Day is the celebration of more than 100 years of Ames and Iowa State working together. The event in Campustown is the third in a series of events that commemorate the history of Ames.
Dinkey Day celebrates the old train that shuttled students and faculty from campus to downtown Ames in the early parts of the 20th century.
Dinkey Day will include live music, family-friendly activities, food and drink.
Starting at 5 p.m., the U.S. Bank Activity Area will include face painting, inflatables and a mechanical bull, courtesy of the ISU Rodeo Club.
The Kingland Systems Soda Fountain Garden will provide free root beer and cream soda. Cyclone Market will feature seven different student organizations promoting their activities.
The Ames Historical Society will debut their new educational trailer, as well as provide a historical backdrop that can be used for pictures.
At 5:15 p.m., the first band, Daisy Head Mazy, is scheduled to start. Following them at 6:45 is Red Wanting Blue. The headline band, Home Free, will perform at 8:15 p.m. Home Free was the season 4 winner of “The Sing Off.”
