May 19 was a day packed full of action for the ISU men’s basketball team, despite the lack of a game or even a practice.

After announcing that 7-footer Georgios Tsalmpouris had officially signed a letter of intent to suit up in cardinal and gold next season, ISU head coach Fred Hoiberg used his mayoral talent to land yet another transfer in Hallice Cooke, formerly of Oregon State.

Cooke tweeted out his intention to join the Cyclones a little after 7:00 p.m. May 19, including a link to an Instagram of himself in an ISU jersey.

Cooke may have landed in Ames partially because of the team’s recent success in the NCAA Tournament.

According to an article by Randy Peterson in the Des Moines Register, Cooke tweeted about the importance of the NCAA Tournament and his desire to participate in it after his team lost in round one of the Pac-12 conference tournament to in-state rival Oregon.

Cooke is listed at 6 feet 3 inches and played point guard during his freshman year at Oregon State, averaging 8.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

An important distinction between Cooke and Tsalmpoulis, other than a height difference of 10 inches and the position each plays, is that Cooke will not be eligible to play next season due to NCAA rules regarding player transfers. Tsalmpoulis will be allowed to suit up in the 2014-15 season.

With the loss of DeAndre Kane to the NBA, Cooke may be able to fill some of the scoring void from the guard position when he enters the lineup two seasons from now.

Cooke was 41-of-90 from behind the arc during his freshman campaign, which appears to make him a good fit for Hoiberg’s high octane, 3-point saturated offensive scheme.
