The ISU swimming and diving team got its first win at home this season on senior day against Kansas by a 163.5-136.5 final score.

At the halfway point coming into action Saturday, Kansas held a 75.5-74.5 lead against the Cyclones. In day two of competition, Iowa State started off the day on a high note.

Junior Amanda Paulson started things off for the Cyclones with a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.46. She took home her 25th first place finish last night, and today she touched first in her first event.

Iowa State went on to win the next five events including sophomore Marissa Engel’s first place 200 backstroke event with a time of 2:02.84 and freshman Karyl Clarete’s first place photo finish in the 500 freestyle.

After that spree of five-straight first place events, the Cyclones started to pull away on the scoreboard, 101.5-86.5.

On the 3-meter diving board, sophomore Elyse Brouillette recorded a score of 312.22, which got her first place in the event.

Iowa State finished the meet with the 400 free relay. Clarete finished well ahead of all the other lanes, while the Cyclones finished in first place with a time of 3:28.90.

The ISU swimming and diving team will be back in the pool Feb. 26 in Austin, Texas for the Big 12 Championships.
