ISU swimming and diving team finishes in second on the second day of Big 12’s

The ISU swimming and diving team entered day two of the Big 12 Championships in a tie for third place, but when it was all said and done, stand alone in second after events on Feb. 27.
During the prelims, Iowa State was led by Freshman Karyl Clarete in the 500-yard freestyle and junior Amanda Paulson in the 50-yard freestyle. Clarete recorded a prelim time of 4:49.36 and finished in third place and Paulson recorded a time of 22.86 and came in second.
Sophomore Elyse Brouillette recorded a score of 282.50 on the 1-meter diving board and finished in fourth place in the prelims of diving.
As the Thursday finals rolled around, Clarete finished third in the 500-yard freestyle final with a time of 4:46.22, which beat her school record by six seconds.
Texas swept the 200-yard IM, which kept them high in the standings for the day.
Senior Jessica Henderson recorded a score of 314.40 in the 1-meter diving board, finishing second, while Brouillette finished fifth.
During the 50-yard freestyle finals, Paulson finished with a time of 22.78, which ties her school record. She finished in third place.
The Cyclones finished the day with the 400-yard medley relay. Iowa State, which consisted of Loeschke, Wistey, Kucera and Paulson, finished in third with a time of 3:41.81.
Iowa State finished day two of the Big 12 Championships in second place with a score of 185.5. Texas is in first place with a score of 395.5.
The ISU swimming and diving team will be back in action at 10 a.m. Friday in Austin, Texas.
