Gymnastics places third in quad-meet

The ISU gymnastics team placed third out of for teams Sunday afternoon at the NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill. Finishing in first place was Texas Women’s University (193.875), followed by Northern Illinois (193.825), Iowa State (192.725) and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (191.800)
The Cyclones (3-6, 1-1 Big 12) were plagued by mistakes en route to their lowest overall team score of the season. Five different ISU gymnasts each fell once, recording at least one fall on every apparatus.
Individual performances highlighted the meet for Iowa State, as ISU gymnasts finished or tied for the highest score on each apparatus.
On vault, Caitlin Brown tied for first (9.800); Camille Santerre-Gervais notched the top score on bars (9.900); Michelle Shealy and Alex Marasco tied for first on beam (9.775); Milan Ivory placed first on floor (9.850).
Northern Illinois’s Kim Gotlund won the all-around with a mark of 38.750.
Sophomore Sara Townsend fell on the floor exercise and was not able to continue competing. She was slated to perform on vault after the floor exercise, but pulled out of the event.
The ISU gymnastics team will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 21 to host Minnesota. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:30 in Hilton Coliseum.
