ISU swimming and diving falls to Illinois

The ISU swimming and diving team suffered its third loss of the season against Illinois 168-132 at Beyer Pool on Friday night.

It was a back-and-forth meet in the beginning of the afternoon and Iowa State had an 86-83 lead on the scoreboard after half of the events. It was then that Illinois came back with wins in six events going into the 3-meter diving competition.

Senior Jessica Henderson and sophomore Elyse Brouillette of the ISU diving squad tried to keep the Cyclones in the meet, with Henderson coming in first on the 1-meter board with a score of 279.46. Brouillette scored a 276.82 and came in second.

Iowa State also received the first and second spots on the 3-meter board. Henderson recorded a 288.30 while Brouillette scored a 283.95.

The Cyclones could not come back in the meet as the Fighting Illini won the final two events to close out the meet.

The ISU swimming and diving team will be back in action Jan. 25 in Cedar Falls to take on University of Northern Iowa.
