No. 24 Iowa State dropped an important match against No. 22 Kansas on Wednesday night, Nov. 20, at Hilton Coliseum in four sets (21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 20-25).

The Cyclones (17-7, 10-3 Big 12) and the Jayhawks (21-6, 11-3 Big 12) have been close in the Big 12 standings battling for second place behind No. 1 Texas. After the match on Wednesday, the Jayhawks moved into second place while the Cyclones are in third.

With true freshman Ciara Capezio struggling, redshirt freshman Morgan Kuhrt saw more playing time as she played in most of the third and fourth sets. She saw limited time in the second set as well and had nine kills, all in the third and fourth sets, and had a .389 hitting percentage.

Regarding more time on the court going forward ISU coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said that Kuhrt “definitely made her case” given the night she had against Kansas.

Capezio had just six kills and nine errors on 20 attempts and had a -.150 hitting percentage. The Cyclones hit .167 as a team on a night.

The Cyclones, usually a good serving team were plagued by service errors against the Jayhawks. They had 12 service errors in the match against just four aces.

The ISU volleyball team will leave this match behind and travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for its next match against TCU on Saturday.
