The ISU women’s golf team concluded the fall season with a 14th place finish after battling back from its first team round score of 321 and a second team round of 306 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. on Sunday.

Iowa State carded a final team round of 298 to shoot them into 14th place.

Freshman Carmen Vidau led the Cyclones with an overall score of 229. She finished 32nd after carding a 79 in the final round of play. She shared 32nd place with five other players.

“I played good the first day. The second and third day, my shots weren’t as good,” Vidau said. “Overall, it wasn’t a good tournament for [the team]. We’re a little disappointed, but we’re going to get out there and prepare for the spring.”

Senior Sasikarn On-iam and sophomore Chonlada Chayanun both ended up with scores of 232 and tied for 47th place. Both players started off the tournament with first round scores above 80. On-iam carded a 73 in the third round, and Chayanun carded a 74 in the final round of the tournament to put them in a tie.

“We had a really bad drop on the first day,” Chayanun said. “It was pretty windy and cold so it was hard to control my long shots. I couldn’t hit the green.”

Alabama won the tournament, finishing with an overall score of 867. The Crimson Tide featured the first overall individual and another who finished third. Duke was runner up at the Landfall Tradition with an overall score of 875. Iowa State finished with a score of 925.

“We aren’t satisfied with the [Landfall Tradition] result, but we’re going to get ready for the spring,” Chayanun said. “We want to bring back those feelings of the first three tournaments.”

The Cyclones have finished fourth, sixth, and third in the three previous tournaments they have participated in.

Iowa State won’t be back in action for a while as it is done for the fall season. The Cyclones are looking forward to a lengthy off-season to continue improving.

The Cyclones will head to West Palm Beach, Fla. on Feb. 2, 2014 for the Alumni Match.
