Finding a club or organization

There are over eight hundred student organizations on campus that fall under various categories. A complete list of clubs and organizations at Iowa State can be found at sodb-stuorg.sws.iastate.edu/list.php. If you can’t find a club or organization to meet your needs or interests, you can start one. The Student Activities Center can help you with this.

Attend ClubFest

ClubFest will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Great Hall at the Memorial Union. It is a great place to talk to people that belong to the different clubs and organizations on campus. Attending ClubFest will help you find other people who have the same interests as yours, which usually leads to making new friends.

Helping others

Some ways you can help others is by volunteering, joining the Greek system or tutoring. You can choose to find a volunteer group on campus or one in Ames. Fraternities and sororities participate in various philanthropic events throughout the year. If you excel at a particular subject, visit the Academic Success Center to see if there are any students looking for a tutor. The Academic Success Center is located at Hixson-Lied Student Success Center on the east side of campus.

Become a Teaching Assistant

Another way to help others is to become a teaching assistant. To do this, visit www.celt.iastate.edu/teaching/TAhandbook.html and review the handbook. This website also has resources for teaching assistants including workshops, seminars and contact information. On the left side is a link for the application process. In order to become a teaching assistant, you must pass the Oral English Certification Test if North American English is not your native language.
