If you are reading this article, then congratulations are in order, as you survived the first month of summer! Unfortunately, there are still three months of potential boredom ahead. Let this guide of June 2013 “blockbuster” movie releases remain a light of hope on those lonely summer days. If for some reason you want to know what you missed in May, you can have a look here

The Internship 06/07/13 (Trailer)

You might be surprised to see “The Internship” here, after all it is just a summer comedy movie. But the last time Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson teamed up for a summer comedy, we were given the surprise hit “Wedding Crashers,” which earned over seven times its actual budget. The studios are hoping to receive a similar success with this film, and making sure you know about it with ads everywhere. Yes, it will probably just be jokes about nerds, old people, and technology, but it involves Google. Everyone loves Google!

The Purge 06/07/13 (Trailer)

The Purge” has the benefit of being the only large horror release this summer, so it is sure to be a hit for those who enjoy being scared. I saw the trailer originally before “Evil Dead,” and found the concept frightening and loved that it would be full of moral and philosophical conundrums. Another plus, it also features Ethan Hawke, who is starring in “Before Midnight,” a critically acclaimed film (that definitely will not be a blockbuster) also releasing in early June.

Man of Steel 06/14/13 (Trailer)

I personally find the concept of Superman to be a bit boring. He is a hero with no (real) weaknesses; an alien on our planet who is amazing at everything. Recent attempts in film have been met with rather grouchy yawns. However, “Man Of Steel” is attempting to reboot him in a way that both humanizes Mr. Perfect a bit more, while also showing that he has more than physical weaknesses. Beside, who doesn’t want to see Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan team up to make a movie?

This Is The End 06/14/13 (Trailer)

One of the funnier types of cameos is when a star plays a fictional version of himself, such as Neil Patrick Harris in “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.” Well, what happens when the entire movie is full of these types of roles? In “This Is The End,” the apocalypse and a few other prophecies seem to be happening all at once. Actors are people too, so when their parties are interrupted by fire and brimstone, what are they left to do? Starring the comedy brat pack of James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, it is sure to be hilarious.

My Little Pony: Equestria Girls 06/16/13 (Trailer

Alright, I will admit, “My Little Pony: Equestria Girls” is probably not going to be a summer blockbuster. In fact, I don’t know much about the franchise at all. I know it was a series of toys, that got turned into a popular show and now theatrical movies. So why talk about it? Well, the internet seems to love it, regardless of age or gender, so there is a chance it could be a surprise hit.

Monsters University 06/21/13 (Trailer)

Monsters University” is the long awaited follow up to 2001’s “Monsters Inc.” Now that all the younger fans of the franchise have moved on to college, Pixar has been dying to have a college themed movie of their own. Unfortunately, this movie is a prequel and not a sequel, so all of the character development and change that occurred in Monstropolis can be ignored to see the characters when they were younger. I am not looking forward to it for those reasons, but hey. It’s Pixar.

World War Z 06/21/13 (Trailer)

Fans of the book “World War Z” are up in arms that their beloved literature is being made into a movie that is nothing like the book itself. Sharing only titles, everything else seems to be different about the movie adaptation. For one thing, the zombies move absurdly fast. Faster than any zombie I have seen shamble before. In the book, they are slow. Will that stop me from seeing this movie? Heck no. After all, Brad Pitt stars in it, and Pitt rhymes with hit.

White House Down 06/28/13 (Trailer)

A terrorist plot to take out the president at the White House? Boy that sounds familiar. Yes, this is another Hollywood Doppelganger. “White House Down” sounds similar to “Olympus Has Fallen.” Not only that, but “Olympus Has Fallen” was excellent. Whether or not there is room this summer for both of these movies to be amazing has yet to be determined. More importantly is that this version features Jamie Foxx as the president, and he appears to be kicking ass along side Channing Tatum, making it more than a one man show.

If these teasers aren’t enough for you, be sure to read our full reviews as the movies are released this month. After all, sometimes that last $10 might be better spent somewhere else.
