Cyclone women finish fourth at Big 12s, men finish ninth

Betsy Saina completed her final Big 12 Championship meet by winning her eighth title.

Saina finished first with a time of 15:41.64, and three other Cyclone women finished in the top-7 in the race. Meaghan Nelson finished in third, Dani Stack finished in fifth and Samantha Bluske in seventh.

Iowa State sprinter and Drake Relays 400-meter hurdles champion Ese Okoro finished third in the 400-meter hurdles.

Maggie Gannon competed in the 1,500-meter run and finished third, Gannon placed second in the 1,000-meter run at the Big 12 Indoor Championship in Ames.

The Iowa State women’s distance runners earned 50 points total in the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run. The Cyclone women ended the meet in fourth place with 89 total points, Kansas finished first with 158 points.

Despite running a personal-best time, Iowa State sprinter Nick Efkamp finished fourth place in the 400-meter dash. Efkamp won the 400-meter dash at the Big 12 Indoor Championship.

Two more Cyclones, thrower Jan Jeuschede and jumper Kevin Poster, achieved personal bests. Poster finished sixth in the triple jump at 49-00.75 feet and Jeuschede finished third in the shot put with a throw of 59-06.75 feet.

The Iowa State men finished ninth place with 51.50 points, Texas finished first on the men’s side.

Iowa State will be back in action at Kansas State in the Kansas State Open this upcoming weekend.
