Hoping for a stop to this week’s continual rain, the ISU softball team (18-22, 3-6 Big 12) will host Texas Tech for a three-game series this weekend.

The Cyclones (18-22, 3-6 Big 12) were originally scheduled to play two games against UMKC on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. The doubleheader was canceled due to the thunderstorms throughout the Midwest.

Friday will be the Cyclones’ first game since being swept last weekend by No. 6 Texas.

The Red Raiders (27-20, 1-8) are currently on an eight-game Big 12 losing streak. The team dropped two games to Oklahoma State and was defeated by Kansas and top-ranked Oklahoma during the streak.

The Cyclones have yet to lose a home game this season. The team could get back to a .500 record in the Big 12 with a sweep this weekend.

Seniors Erica Miller and Tori Torrescano continue their race to the top of the ISU top-10 lists. At least one of the two, and in many cases both players, is currently atop or among the top 10 in ISU history in 14 single-season and career categories including RBIs, runs scored, hits, home runs and batting average.

Torrescano is second in the Big 12 in the home run category with 13 on the season. In conference play, Iowa State is third in hitting with a .262 average, behind Oklahoma and Texas.

The Cyclones have tallied 66 stolen bases this season and are four bags away from a school record. Freshman Brittany Gomez is five steals away from the school record (45) set by Jenny Condon in 1989.

The team has found success in two-out situations this season. The Cyclones have driven in 81 RBIs on offense when there are two outs.

At the national level, Iowa State is seventh in double plays per game, turning seven double plays this season for an average of 0.53 per seven innings.

Texas Tech is hitting .304 on the year but just .181 against Big 12 opponents. The Cyclones are 14-23 all time against the Red Raiders, last defeating Tech in 2010.

The series will open at 4 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
