Snow ordinance in effect at 10 p.m.
March 10, 2013
The City of Ames has listed a snow ordinance in effect at 10 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013. The ordinance is due to an expected moderate to heavy accumulation of snow through Sunday night into Monday, March 11.
The National Government Service has issued a winter storm warning, starting at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, to last through 7 a.m. Monday.
Light rainfall is expected to turn into snow falling. There is a chance of freezing rain as the rainfall transitions into snow. Ames is expected to get five to nine inches of snow.
Traveling conditions are expected to deteriorate with the possibility of ice glazing on some of the roads.
In order to combat the winter weather, the City of Ames has asked residents to not park on streets indicated by red and white signs signifying the roads are snow routes. Cars that are on these routes will be ticketed and towed starting at 10 p.m. Sunday evening.
The snow ordinance will be in effect until the streets are cleared and the winter storm weather has passed. Although only the streets marked as snow routes are required to be cleared, the City of Ames recommends that drivers steer clear of parking on the road so the streets can be cleared as thoroughly as possible.
