STILLWATER, Okla. — Iowa State finished off its bout at the inaugural Big 12 Duals with a 45-3 victory against West Virginia on Friday evening at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The dual began with a forfeit by West Virginia at 125 pounds to give Iowa State the 6-0 lead after one period.

At 133 pounds, John Meeks began the action with his dramatic win against Colin Johnston. With the score knotted at 1-1 with one minute remaining in regulation, Meeks got in on Johnston’s leg but was unable to connect before the two escaped the ring.

The match would be decided in overtime, where Meeks fired off a counter with 0:03 remaining to win in dramatic fashion.

After Luke Goettl won by forfeit at 141 pounds, Max Mayfield took to the mat against Tre Miller-Scott at 149. Mayfield kept consistent with his attacks en route to a 9-3 victory to give the Cyclones an 18-0 lead after four matches.

Logan Molina learned the principle of double-knotting in the 157-pound match, where he was called for stalling going into the third period for tying his unlaced shoes. The call gave Jason Luster a point and the eventual 4-2 victory to give West Virginia its first points of the dual.

Michael Moreno finished his day undefeated with his 3-1 victory against Ross Renzi in the 165-pound match. Moreno’s defense was on key in the match, negating Renzi’s attacks to get out of dangerous situations.

Renzi rolled out of Moreno’s attempt at a cradle in the middle of the third before Moreno rolled to a 3-1 victory.

Tanner Weatherman (174 pounds) and Mikey England (184) won by forfeit before Kyven Gadson pinned Mark Colabucci in 47 seconds at 197 pounds.

The dual concluded with a forfeit at heavyweight, counting as a win for Matt Gibson.
