Iowa State to play in Liberty Bowl

Iowa State will be going to the Liberty Bowl Bowl to face Tulsa, per a news release from Louisiana Tech.

The Liberty Bowl, which is played in Memphis, Tenn., will be the third bowl game in which Iowa State will play in four years under coach Paul Rhoads.

Since Oklahoma was denied a BCS bid in favor of Northern Illinois of the Mid-American Conference, it found itself in the Cotton Bowl to knock every Big 12 team down a peg in the Big 12 pecking order. This subsequently excluded Iowa State from the Big 12 bowls.

Iowa State will play Tulsa, which it defeated 38-23 in the season opener on Sept. 1. Tulsa (10-3, 7-1 C-USA) won the Conference USA title this season.

The Liberty Bowl, which is played in Memphis, Tenn., will be played at 2:30 p.m. CST on Monday, Dec. 31, on ESPN.

Iowa State made a previous appearance in the Liberty Bowl in 1972, when it lost to Georgia Tech 31-30.

Iowa State will be hosting a news conference for coach Paul Rhoads at 9:15 p.m. CST with interviews from players to follow.
