The Greenhouse Group is a student organization devoted to implementing recycling and sustainability in the residence halls and Frederiksen Court.

In spring 2009 the group launched their department of residence recycling plan which incorporated recycling bins in dens, a recycling chair to oversee recycling, establishing cleanliness standards for the recycling pick-up sites, and the transportation of recyclables to Ames Area Redemption.

Since then the Greenhouse Group has been working to train new recycling chairs, provide sustainability information to residence hall students, and to set up sustainability activities for students living in residence halls. One such activity is Earth Hour in which students are encouraged to live without energy for one hour.

The Greenhouse Group provides fun activities such as glow Frisbee and music during this hour. They also host the recycling at VEISHEA, giving away prizes to people who recycle cans and bottles at their booth.

Students wishing to get involved with the group are welcome and encouraged to contact Casey Fangmann for more information.
