With a berth to the NCAA Championships in May, ISU senior Nate McCoy ended his collegiate career with the country’s elite. On Thursday, June 7, 2012, McCoy joined another elite group as he was named Iowa State’s 2011-12 Male Athlete of the Year.

During his senior season, McCoy won two tournaments and finished in the top-10 eight times. In May, he qualified for the NCAA Championships, where he tied for 29th out of 156 golfers. McCoy was one of just six golfers to play in the event as an individual.

McCoy was the first Cyclone to make the NCAA Championships as an individual since 1980 and set the Iowa State school record for single-season stroke average with a 71.65 mark.

In the final rankings by Golfweek, McCoy was ranked No. 42 in the country.

Golf will remain in McCoy’s future as the West Des Moines native embarks on the Canadian Tour beginning later this month.
