Cyclone Idol (hosted by Young MC)
Where: Great Hall, MU
When: Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Cost: Free
Cyclone Idol is ISU’s version of American Idol. Co-sponsored by the Student Union Board, this competition showcases ISU’s student singers.
Stars over Veishea: “Rent”
Where: Fisher Theater
When: Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.
Cost: $16 students, $21 general
The story of a group of eight friends who are impoverished young artists and musicians, struggling to create and survive under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The inspiration for the characters and the plot is taken directly from Puccini’s opera La Boheme which used tuberculosis as its scourge. The musical first opened on Broadway in 1996, ran for twelve years, and won a Pulitzer Prize. Produced in conjunction with VEISHEA and the Department of Music. Warning: This production is intended for mature audiences.
Veishea Says I’m Funny
Where: The Maintenance Shop, MU
When: Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Cost: Free
Veishea Says I’m Funny is a competition to showcase ISU’s students and their stand-up comedy skills. This consists of stand-up comedy routines performed by brave students taking a chance and allowing select judges and the audience to weigh in with their reactions.
