Caspers, Mattison continue careers elsewhere
April 29, 2012
In addition to Young, the Daily reached out to the other five players Rhoads announced as no longer with the program on Signing Day to find out their plans after leaving Iowa State.
Offensive lineman Jon Caspers
After playing two years at North Dakota State College of Science and not seeing the field in two years at Iowa State, Caspers is headed back to the Dakotas to play at Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D.
Moved from offensive line to defensive line last season, the 6-foot-5-inch, 277-pound Caspers said a lack of playing time was the primary reason for his decision to transfer to Northern State.
“Jon brings a physical presence to our program,” said Northern State coach Tom Dosch in a release. “His experience at the collegiate level will be a great addition to our offensive line. We expect him to compete for playing time immediately.”
Running back Duran Hollis
The team’s sixth-leading rusher with 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 2011, Hollis was dismissed from the program for “a failure to comply with the expectations and the policies of this program,” Rhoads said on Feb. 1.
Hollis — a Fort Worth, Texas, native — has not responded to the Daily’s attempts to get a hold of him.
Wide receiver Donnie Jennert
A source close to Jennert, who decided to remain anonymous, told the Daily in February that Jennert plans to enroll at Division II Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. However, Lindenwood Sports Information Director Daniel Newton said Jennert has not signed to play with the football team as of Friday.
A 6-foot-7-inch wide receiver, Jennert pleaded guilty on Oct. 12, 2011, to a public intoxication charge stemming from an incident on Sept. 11, 2011. According to Florida police records, Jennert also was arrested on three charges — aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting officer without violence and disorderly intoxication — on Jan. 1.
Wide receiver Teddy Lampkin
Recruited by both football coach Paul Rhoads and track-and-field coach Corey Ihmels, Lampkin decided to participate exclusively in track and field after redshirting during his freshman season with the football team.
A Nebraska triple jump state champion and Gatorade Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year as a junior in 2010, Lampkin placed third in the long jump at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in February with a personal best of 24-4 1/2 inches.
Linebacker Floyd Mattison
Mattison, a redshirt freshman linebacker in 2011, played in six games as a member of various special teams units. The 5-foot-10-inch, 203-pounder transferred to Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.
“Mattison will be one of the fastest guys in the conference,” said Tyler coach Danny Palmer in a release. “He was his district’s champion in the 100- and 200-[meter dashes].”
