Game one of a three-game series concluded Friday afternoon, and No. 14 Texas A&M picked up the win against the ISU softball team. The Aggies (26-10, 6-2 Big 12) were able to come away with a 6-1 victory against the Cyclones (11-23, 0-7 Big 12).

Action began immediately as Tori Torrescano, with two outs, walked A&M’s Meagan May before giving up a home run to the very next batter Cassie Tysarczyk, putting the Aggies ahead 2-0 in the first inning.

Nicole Morgan added another run in the third inning with a solo home run of her own, pushing the A&M lead to 3-0.

Lexi Slater ended the shutout for the Aggies with a two-out solo home run putting the Cyclones on the board still trailing 3-1. The home run marked Slater’s fifth home run of the season and first since March 4 against Brown University.

Iowa State had a chance to cut into or take the lead from the Aggies in the fourth inning with two runners on base and one out but was unable to capitalize with a fly out and a swinging strike out against Dalyn Varela.

In the sixth, the Aggies added yet another two more runs in the inning pushing their lead to 5-1.

Torrescano (6-16) was replaced in the top of the seventh inning in favor or Lauren Kennewell, after pitching six innings, and gave up eight hits and five runs.

Kennewell proceeded to give up one hit and one run in her one inning of work.
