Cyclones fall to No. 15 Michigan
December 3, 2011
The ISU men’s basketball team lost its second straight game Saturday, falling 76-66 to No. 15 Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Cyclones (5-3) once again had their problems defensively, but were mainly plagued by poor shooting. As a team, Iowa State went 6-of-27 from 3-point range — highlighted by guard Chris Babb, going 1-of-10 from beyond the arc — and 24-of-67 from the field.
Michigan, coming off an upset loss to Virginia on Wednesday, took advantage of the Cyclones’ shooting woes in the second half. After a Chris Allen 3-pointer right out of halftime, the Wolverines went on a 21-7 run over the next 8:05 to extend the lead to 55-35.
After several Fred Hoiberg timeouts, the Cyclones fought back late in the game, getting the lead down to six points at 72-66 with 22 seconds left in the game, but Michigan held on at the free-throw line for the win.
Michigan was led by guard Tim Hardaway Jr., who went 6-of-12 from the field en route to 19 points and six rebounds.
Iowa State saw solid offensive production from forward Royce White, who finished with a double-double, amassing 22 points and 13 rebounds on 10-of-15 shooting from the field.
The Cyclones next face Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hilton Coliseum.
